COURIER JOURNAL BY ROGER FRISTOE

Producer filmmaker George Addison is profiled in this archived Courier Journal August 15, 1993 article "The Reel Kentucky," which takes a look at why Kentucky's home-grown filmmakers favor the state's locations and actors. Addison is quoted in the article as saying, "Kentucky is a refreshing place to people who have been beat up by the big cities. It's a vacation to come here and work on film."

A SHORT DOCUMENTARY BY GEORGE ADDISON

Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks - Photographer, Filmmaker, Composer, Writer, Journalist, Poet, Novelist, Activist and Mentor. It was in the spring of 1976 that I reached out to Mr. Gordon Parks and asked him for his advice concerning poetry, photography and the industry in general. He encouraged me to stay passionate and keep focused on my poetry and photography while simultaneoously continuing to develop my educational and artistic skills.
Several years later I got the opportunity to express my gratitude personally when he appeared as a guest on my public affairs broadcast program "The National Black Business Report." What started as simple words of encouragement years before had gone full circle in my life.
This short documentary highlights a few of the comments recorded during our conversation. I am sharing them in the hopes of inspiring other filmmakers, artist, poets, musicians and writers.

“The secret of crowd funding is to do it with others. But you have to find the others. And you have to rely on others…. “
Carole Dean, President – From the Heart Productions
If you’re a filmmaker, you will often find that the creative process is typically interrupted by the need to seek funding for your project. This usually is an exhausting process that, hopefully, will lead to the financial support necessary for you to successfully share your creative vision with the world. If you are lucky, and have done your research, then you might land at the doorsteps of From the Heart Productions as a recipient of the Roy W. Dean Foundation Grant.
